The Story of the Six-Legged Starfish©

The Six-Legged Starfish© on our award was created to recognize the efforts being made by volunteer tutors, for “making a difference for someone with learning differences,” and to students to recognize their personal efforts and achievement as  students with learning differences.

The unique starfish on our award has six legs, making it different from most five-legged starfish. This symbolizes the student with learning differences. Each milestone award recognizes the achievement and effort of each unique student in working to improve their reading and academic achievement.

The Six-Legged Starfish© is also given to the volunteer tutor at each milestone, to recognize the tutor’s commitment to making a difference to someone with learning differences.
